feedback

so far so good, if you want to improve on unit 5.1 you would need to explain with examples how audiences are though about by giving contrating examples. For 5.2 you must provide more examples and discuss issues surrounding codes and conventions as well as make links to things like focus groups etc. For 5.3 we need examples of the theories in action

Social Groups - Students that have just left secondary education. For people that enjoying cooking and would want to take a course in the subject.

Social Issues - Gender representation, the advert shows just males in the background and not any females also the main presenter is a male. This could put girls off joining the course.

Positive / Negative - Shows catering students hard at work in the background so that it shows a positive effect that they are working hard and they are enjoying cooking. Negative issue is that there is only males working in the background so if a female is wanting to join catering they may be put off as it doesn't represent females.

Connotation - French Chef due to the music at the start, thinking he will be French and an excellent chef, the viewer will think that the whole course will teach you different things and be a good course to join.

Narrative Structure;

Equilibrium - The advert goes in order, the advert starts of saying he's a student at college and should join the college at the end of the advert it says how to join and Stratford College written on a cake in icing.

Relationship to Target Audience;

Audience Expectations - Chef to be french due to the music in the background, the audience would of expected to hear a french accent to fit the music so that they feel really in the mood for cooking.

Pleasure Of The Texts - The text of the advert was smooth talking, it flowed correctly so we wasn't confused of what they was saying, the adver was easy to watch and understand what they wanted to convey to the audience.

The advert does what its meant to portray, to show what catering would be like if the students joined Stratofrd College, it shows students in the background working hard so that students who want to join can see what life is like as a catering student. Theory's

Hyperdomic Needles

This theory is one of the most famous theories that analyzed between audience and media. The theory was developed in the early 1920's with the start of mass media, radio and cinema. The theory suggested that mass media can easily influence a large group of people with out challenge and opposition from people. Media producers and creators can manipulate the audience and inject the information they want to send out.

One theory is if a person watches a violent movie then that person would do violence. A good example of this is the serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer who watched a violent movie before each crime he committed.

The Hypodermic Needle Model also implied media had a direct, immediate and powerful effect on its audience. During the 1940's to the 1950's it was perceived as a powerful influence on behavior change.

Uses and Gratification

Media users play an active roll in choosing and using the media. Users take an active part in the communication process. The theory can be seen in cases such as personal music taste, we select music not only to fit a mood but to also to show empowerment or other socially conscience motives. an audience-centered approach. When an audience actively seeks out media, they are typically seeking it in order to gratify a need. For example, in social situations, people may feel more confident and knowledgeable when they have specific facts and stories from media to add to conversation. By seeking out media, a person fulfills a need to be informed.

Reception Theory

Reception theory provides an understanding of media texts by understanding how these texts are read by audiences. People that analyze media through reception studies are concerned with the experience of cinema and television viewing for audiences and how meaning is created through that experience.
